Jamie’s Reading Club
Description: This course is for those people who enjoy reading contemporary short texts in English, both fiction and non-fiction, related to the world today. The course will involve discussion both in online meetings and in forums. We will consider a variety of aspects including the background to the texts and their authors, the context they are written in and the tools the writer uses to create an effect. The materials may be penned by native or non-native English speakers and represent our multicultural world. There will be some analysis of vocabulary where required. It is not a course in literary genre so much as a space to reflect on modern issues and the voices which are bringing these issues to world attention. The course is designed for your learning and entertainment but teachers will also get some ideas about using similar texts in class.
